We bought our (Saturday) tickets to the NYC Comic Con today - my first comic con ever. My husband is the comic fan - and much as I hate not embracing a true comic book character, I'm simply not comfortable enough with my figure to pull it off. So to avoid a 3 hour crying session in the hotel about how fat I look, I'm just going with something I'm going to enjoy - and feel comfortable wearing. A Mad Hatter costume. But, not based on the Burton film (Atwood design). I'm just glad to be using up some fabric and a top hat I've had for over a decade. And in my defense, some of the celebrity guests aren't comic-related, either (re: Torchwood). The top hat I have was grey, but after a nice soak in the sink, it's a fairly attractive shade of purple! The check fabric for the jacket is a denim/twill that I found on clearance a decade ago. The lining will be teal satin that I have a mystery bolt of - who knows what I bought it for. Feels to good to use my stockpile!
