I've been working from an extant knitting pattern in Godey's Lady's Book, January 1855. I'm about half-way done with the first undersleeve and while it doesn't look as puffy as the illustration, I think once I get the middle band and second puff on it will start to take more shape. I have scanned the illustration in and retyped the pattern exactly as written. The terms are generally the same, except they use m1 for a yarn over. I'm using a finger-weight sock-yarn and size 0 needles.
I've also included a chart for the lace edging on my version which you can download for free.
